In Loving Memory of my Mamaw

My Mamaw

She was almost 88 years old. She lived in the mountains of North Georgia all her life. I remember visiting her and my Papaw there as a child. The lived in a small trailer at the base of a mountain and beside a cemetary. They never had much money. Usually they didn't have enough. But their trailer and the land it sat on was kept as if it were a mansion; always clean and tidy and groomed. My Mamaw was a strong woman. She loved to camp and I have good memories of camping with her and my Papaw. She was a girly girl. Anything that sparkled and shined caught her eye. I remember her home being filled with all sorts of collectibles. I remember this "tacky" lamp that would change colors. I remember her love of big shiny jewlery. She was strong and feminine..what a perfect combination. She was hard on my Papaw; a man that deserves nothing less than a book to hold all the words that would honor him. But she loved him and has missed him immensely from the day that he died. I didn't see my Mamaw as much as I should have over the past few years. She did get to meet and hold both my son and daughter and for that I am thankful. My Mamaw was a believer in the Lord and I know where she is now. And I can't help but think that the mansion that God has prepared for her is full of sparkle and shine. I have only one thing from my Mamaw and I have kept it for nearly 20 years. It is a small breakable figurine of a little girl praying on bended knee. I am sure that she bought it for a dollar or less but it means the world to me. I find it fitting that this figurine is all I have from her...its almost like she and my Papaw are reminding me to be like a child before the Lord and it is a reminder that in this life there is no better position to be in than on bended knee. There is no better or more worthy lesson that she could have left me with than that.
